The Friends of Hammondsport Area Trails & Parks, Inc. Is a newly formed 501c(3) organization that has built a trailhead located on the Finger Lakes Trail/North Country Trail that passes the Urbana Town Hall on Pleasant Valley Road. This trailhead is the first project of an overall trail and park system that will enable the community to enjoy the benefits of the local area and to promote a healthy lifestyle in a safe environment.
The Pleasant Valley Trailhead was built on donations for the benches, kiosk, pavers along with the trees and smaller plant materials in the perennial beds. Membership involvement is a key component which will give community members a stake in our environment.
This project started in the spring with a matching donation challenge of $5,000. Once we got started there was a grant from the Fred & Harriett Taylor Foundation and in October of 2015 we are very fortunate to have an anonymous donor who matched all contributions up to a total of $3,000 which let us complete the new trailhead. The finishing components were added in the spring of 2016 and the “ribbon cutting” took place in late April at our third “downhill” hike.
To raise funds in order to develop, enhance, maintain, preserve and protect Hammondsport Area’s Trails and Parks.
To provide funding for Trails and Parks that reflects the unique character and beauty of our area and meets the needs of the community.
An outstanding trail and park system fosters quality of life by improving physical and mental health, enhancing the beauty of our community, strengthening social ties and stimulating economic development. Active involvement will create and enhance the trails and parks as a prime personal experience.

A trailhead at the Urbana Town Hall on Pleasant Valley Road. Where the Finger Lakes Trail/North Country Scenic Trail cross State Route 54, also the Gateway from the south to Keuka Lake and the Finger Lakes.
This may become the model for future trailheads throughout the Trail & Park system being developed within the Town of Urbana & the Village of Hammondsport.
The Pleasant Valley Trailhead was dedicated to the Town of Urbana on April 23, 2016 after a hike along a section of the Finger Lakes Trail by 88 hikers.
Our current fund raising effort is a raffle of a Scott Graham painting of a section of the “Rails to Trails” project, the Champaign Trail. The painting shows the old steam train along Pleasant Valley and Cold Brook. The drawing will be Dec. 17th at the Hammondsport American Legion. The other painting was also done and donated by Scott last year of the section of the FLT along the Mitchellsville Gorge.
